Clashes in Brighton Lead to Five Arrests at Rival Protests

Five arrests have been made following clashes between anti-racist groups and far-right demonstrators in Brighton on Saturday, June 13. An estimated 4,000 people from Carnival Against Fascism faced off against a few hundred members of the opposing Stop The Boats protest.

Arrests and Incidents

Sussex Police reported that as of 6pm, five individuals had been detained. A man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence in Queens Road. A second man was later held on suspicion of breaching the peace and assaulting a police officer. A woman was arrested for breach of the peace and possession of a pyrotechnic item. Two additional men were arrested on suspicion of assault, including one for assaulting a police officer. All remain in custody.

Protest Movements

The Stop The Boats protest, numbering around 300, moved south of the railway station towards Madeira Drive. The counter-protest, Carnival Against Fascism, continued in the area with an estimated 4,000 participants. Police stated they are facilitating movement, freedom of expression, and assembly for both groups.
