Domestic abuser who dragged woman from phone box jailed

Kyle Page, a 33-year-old domestic abuser, has been jailed after dragging a woman away from a phone box in Harborne, Birmingham, as she desperately called for help. West Midlands Police confirmed that Page was sentenced to a total of five years and one month at a hearing on Thursday, August 13.

Prolonged abuse and strangulation

Page subjected his victim to a prolonged period of physical abuse, including strangulation on multiple occasions and numerous assaults. The court heard that he also prevented her from leaving a property. The victim managed to escape long enough to find a member of the public who assisted her in contacting authorities in July last year.

Page pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of assault by actual bodily harm, and aggravated vehicle taking. He was also found guilty of another count of intentional strangulation in June this year.

Phone box incident and arrest

A West Midlands Police spokesperson detailed the incident: "An investigation was launched in July last year after we received a 999 call from a woman from a phone box in Harborne saying that she had been physically assaulted. While on the phone, Kyle Page was heard approaching the woman, where he dragged her away screaming before the call dropped out."

The woman ran away and located a member of the public who helped call police again. Officers attended the scene, and Page was later located at an address in Harpers Road, Northfield, and arrested.

Police commend victim's bravery

Detective Constable Francesca Lee, from the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit, said: "Page put his victim through a horrible ordeal of violent assault with no remorse. Thankfully, the victim was brave in sharing the details which helped secure charges and subsequent verdicts. Page will now rightfully be spending time behind bars."

A force spokesperson added: "We have continued to support the woman throughout the lengthy ordeal and commend her bravery in speaking about the abuse she suffered. If you or a loved one is experiencing domestic abuse, we are here to help."
