Work has started on a new inclusive play area at Lower Place in Rochdale, designed for children of all abilities. The project is funded by developer contributions and support from Rochdale South Township, and is expected to take around five weeks to complete.
Accessible Features for All Children
The new play area will include accessible play towers, swings with inclusive and cradle seats, a horse springer, a slide, a climbing net, and a wheelchair-accessible roundabout. Sensory and social play panels have also been added to support imaginative play for younger children.
The design incorporates colourful safety surfacing, a new tarmac access path, and bench seating for parents and carers, ensuring the space is welcoming and usable for everyone.
Council Commitment to Inclusive Outdoor Spaces
Councillor Tricia Ayrton, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for climate change and environment, said: “This new play area at Lower Place has been given to local children of all abilities more opportunities to play, whether on their own or with friends. We hope it will become a bright, welcoming space for families to enjoy for years to come.”
The improvements are part of the council’s ongoing work to create welcoming outdoor spaces where children can stay active. To find out more about local parks and play areas in the borough, visit www.rochdale.gov.uk.
