Expert Warnings and Security Recommendations
Claire Evans, consumer editor at What Car?, has issued a stark warning, stating that car theft levels remain "very high" and that even cheaper, common models are vulnerable. She emphasizes the importance of proactive security measures for all vehicle owners.
"Annual car theft figures continue to be very high, so owners need to do all they can to keep their vehicles safe," Evans said. "Our data shows that small, inexpensive models such as the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Corsa are under threat, so it's vital to take measures to protect all cars."
To combat this trend, Evans recommends simple yet effective precautions, such as using a steering lock or storing keys in a Faraday pouch to block signal theft. These steps can significantly reduce the likelihood of a car being stolen.
Expanded List of Targeted Vehicles in 2025
Beyond the top ten, other models frequently targeted by thieves include the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Ford Kuga, Vauxhall Astra, Mercedes C-Class, BMW 1 Series, Range Rover Sport, Nissan Qashqai, Audi A3, Kia Sportage, and Toyota Prius. This extensive list demonstrates the broad scope of car thefts affecting various manufacturers and vehicle types across the UK.
As car thefts continue to rise, authorities and experts urge owners to remain vigilant and implement robust security practices to safeguard their vehicles against this pervasive crime wave.
