Tributes Paid to Beloved Great-Grandfather
The heartbroken family of a Tamworth great-grandfather have paid emotional tribute to a 'much loved and respected man' following his tragic death after an assault on Halloween night.
Dennis Whiston, 73, from Tamworth, sustained a head injury after being assaulted on Hayle in the Belgrave area at approximately 7.10pm on Friday, October 31.
He was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly passed away four days later on Tuesday, November 4.
Family's Heartfelt Statement
In a moving tribute released through Staffordshire Police, his grieving family expressed their gratitude for the public support they have received.
They stated: "We would like to express our thanks for all the wonderful messages, cards and flowers we have received in memory of Dennis."
"Words cannot express how much Dennis was loved and respected as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather."
The family has made a respectful request for privacy, adding: "We kindly ask that people respect our privacy and give us time to mourn our loss without constant speculation on social media about the circumstances of his passing."
Police Investigation Continues
A 15-year-old boy from Tamworth has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding in connection with the incident.
The teenager has been released on bail with conditions while police continue their investigation into the tragic events.
Officers remain keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or who may have relevant footage from the area.
Authorities are particularly interested in any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage captured around the time of the incident.
