M6 Toll Stabbing: Police Granted Extra Time to Question Suspect in Attempted Murder Case
Detectives investigating an alleged attempted murder on the M6 Toll near Cannock have been granted extra time to interview a suspect, as a man remains in custody following a stabbing incident on a coach.
Incident Details and Police Response
A man was stabbed in the shoulder while travelling on a coach down the southbound stretch of the M6 Toll near Cannock. Police were called to the scene between junctions T7 and T8 at around 8:15 am on Sunday, February 15.
Thankfully, the victim's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this time, and he was taken to hospital in a stable condition. The M6 Toll was closed for a short period but has since been reopened.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
A 41-year-old man from Northumberland was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the ordeal. Today, Monday, February 16, Staffordshire Police confirmed that detectives have been granted additional time to question the suspect, who remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police stated: "We were called at 8.15am this morning to reports a man had been stabbed in the shoulder on the M6 Toll southbound between T8 and T7. The man was taken to hospital, his condition is stable and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."
Emergency Services Involvement
West Midlands Ambulance Service also responded to the incident, confirming that they were called at 8:12 am on Sunday. An ambulance, paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma team, and a Midlands Air Ambulance attended the scene.
The ambulance service reported: "A man was treated on scene for injuries not thought to be life threatening before being taken by land ambulance to hospital."
The investigation into this serious incident is ongoing, with police continuing to gather evidence and interview the suspect under the extended timeframe granted by authorities.
