A manhunt is underway after an inmate escaped from a prison van following a court appearance on Monday. Temitope Segun, aged 25, who is serving a sentence for supplying class A drugs, attacked a guard and fled while being transported from Bromley Magistrates Court to HMP Thameside.
Segun was last seen around Woolwich High Street in south-east London at approximately 6:40 pm on Monday, June 8. Police believe he has connections to areas across London, including Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers.
Officers are emphatic that he should not be approached under any circumstances if spotted. Members of the public are urged to call 999, quoting reference 2270/10JUN. Sightings can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 using the same reference number.
Police investigation ongoing
Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning, who is leading the search, said: "My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun. It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him – or know where he may be."
This incident comes as a convicted rapist, Bernadin Dedic, 48, fled justice after being accidentally released from prison. Dedic, who had held his victim at knifepoint and threatened to kill her, was erroneously released from HMP Wormwood Scrubs in February after a court official incorrectly informed the prison he had been granted bail. He fled the UK via Eurostar and returned to his home country of Bosnia. Despite offering excuses including a heart attack and a skiing accident, he was found guilty in his absence on all nine counts at Isleworth Crown Court.
