Quinton Ward Rocked by Series of Serious Road Incidents
The Quinton ward in Birmingham has been left reeling after three major collisions occurred within a span of less than one month, with one proving fatal. These incidents have deeply affected the local community and raised concerns about road safety in the area.
Fatal Crash Claims Life of Devoted Father
Lee Bowden, a 27-year-old father of two, tragically lost his life when his vehicle struck a tree on Ridgacre Road in Quinton shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 21. In a heartfelt tribute, his family described him as a loving father, son, brother, and partner who had recently secured a promotion at the AA, moved into his own flat, and was building a future with his new partner, Amelia.
He was a devoted Liverpool FC fan and had saved diligently to visit family in Australia earlier in the year. His family emphasized that he left behind his two daughters, Ella and Millie, and countless friends who cherished him.
Two Further Incidents Leave Victims in Critical Condition
In a separate incident on Monday, April 13, a 26-year-old man was left in a life-threatening condition after the Audi he was traveling in crashed into a tree on Clapgate Lane, near Woodgate Valley Business Park, at approximately 11:10 PM. A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified and was hospitalized with an arm injury.
West Midlands Police have launched an investigation, urging witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward by quoting log 6135 of April 13.
Just a week prior, on April 7, a motorcyclist was left fighting for his life after colliding with a car on Hagley Road West, on the border between Quinton and Oldbury, around 2:40 PM. The motorcyclist received treatment at the scene before being transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak, the region's major trauma centre. The road was closed for several hours as investigations proceeded.
The driver of the car involved was not injured and is assisting with the police inquiry. Authorities have asked witnesses or those with dashcam footage to contact them, referencing log 3163 of April 7.
Community Impact and Police Appeals
These consecutive tragedies have sent shockwaves through the Quinton community, prompting increased attention to road safety measures. West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is actively working on all three cases to determine the exact circumstances surrounding each event.
