Hundreds of residents gathered in Oldbury for a powerful demonstration of solidarity, taking part in a Reclaim the Night Walk aimed at ending gender-based violence. Walking for Safety and Solidarity
The peaceful, family-friendly walk set off from Sandwell Council House on Freeth Street at 4 pm on Monday, December 8. Participants followed well-lit routes through Oldbury, with the format allowing people to join or leave the procession at their convenience. The core aim was to support women and girls across the Black Country in reclaiming their fundamental right to feel safe in their community.
A United Front Against Abuse
The walk was organised by the Safer Sandwell Partnership, a coalition including Sandwell Council, Black Country Women's Aid, and West Midlands Police. This visible action forms a crucial part of their wider 16 Days of Action campaign. Councillor Suzanne Hartwell emphasised the partnership's unwavering commitment, stating they "will not stop until that is a reality" that every woman and girl feels safe in the borough.
