Rubery Convenience Store Targeted in Terrifying Machete Robbery
A convenience store in Rubery was subjected to a frightening knifepoint robbery in the early hours of this morning, February 19, with a gang of three to four men armed with a machete demanding cash and fleeing with stolen goods.
Details of the Early Morning Incident
The robbery occurred at approximately 4am at Rubery Express, formerly known as Rubery Minimarket, located on New Road. Witnesses reported that the men, all described as being of Asian appearance and wearing balaclavas to conceal their identities, entered the store brandishing a machete.
One suspect was seen wearing a light grey hoodie with matching grey bottoms and boots, while another had on a black raincoat, camouflage trousers, and black and white trainers. A third individual wore a very light grey top with black bottoms and trainers.
Police Investigation and Appeal for Information
After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, vapes, and the entire till, the gang fled the scene on foot. Detective Inspector Dave Knight of Reactive CID has confirmed that CCTV footage is being reviewed, and there will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue.
"We are urging anyone with information about this robbery to come forward and speak to us," said Detective Inspector Knight. "We have some CCTV and are working with our colleagues at West Midlands Police on this investigation but would like to hear from any eyewitnesses or anyone with more CCTV images or dashcam footage too."
Key Person of Interest
Police have also expressed interest in speaking to an Asian man who entered the store shortly before the robbery to purchase a bottle of water, as he may possess crucial information that could assist the investigation.
"We would urge that individual to come forward," added Detective Inspector Knight.
