Suspect Appears in Court for Nottingham Shooting Death
A suspect accused of murder in a fatal shooting in the Midlands has made his first court appearance. Coel Tainton, aged 24, was discovered deceased at a residence on Ryeland Gardens in The Meadows area of Nottingham.

The tragic discovery occurred shortly after 5:30 AM on February 28. Emergency paramedics provided immediate treatment at the scene, but Mr. Tainton succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The case has now progressed to the judicial system.
Jack Preston, a 34-year-old resident of Ryeland Gardens, appeared via video link from HMP Peterborough at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, April 1. During the hearing, Preston wore a white T-shirt and a green jacket. He sat quietly behind a table with his hands clasped throughout the proceedings before Judge Nirmal Shant KC.
The defendant spoke only to confirm his identity, acknowledge that he could hear the court, and formally enter a plea of not guilty to the charge of murder. The court has scheduled a three-week trial to commence on August 24.
Judicial Instructions and Future Hearings
Judge Shant outlined the next steps in the legal process. A pre-trial review is set for July 10 to ensure all preparations are on track for the August trial date. The judge emphasized the importance of Preston cooperating with his legal team to prepare a defence statement.
"Your solicitors will be in contact with you to prepare a defence statement, where you say what you are going to say in your trial for your defence," Judge Shant stated. "That’s a document you really must focus on."
The judge also warned that the trial could proceed in Preston's absence if he refuses to attend court. Preston was remanded into custody following the hearing, with his next appearance scheduled for the July 10 review.
Family Tribute to Coel Tainton
In a heartfelt statement released after his death, Mr. Tainton's family paid a moving tribute to their "beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend to so many." They described Coel as a loving, caring, and fiercely protective individual with a generous heart and a contagious laugh.
"He brought joy, warmth, and comfort to our lives in countless ways," the family said. "His humour, strength and endless love will forever remain in our hearts. He will be so sadly missed, deeply cherished and loved forever."
