Tamworth Travelodge Vandal Banned from Town Centre for Two Years
A man who vandalised a hotel room at a Travelodge in Staffordshire has been banned from entering Tamworth town centre for two years. Brendan Wyatt, aged 31, admitted to causing criminal damage at the Travelodge located at the Moto Services in Green Lane on Sunday, February 1.
Criminal Behaviour Order Issued
At Cannock Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, February 25, Wyatt pleaded guilty to the offence. In addition to being ordered to pay £100 in compensation, he was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). This order prohibits him from entering a specified area of Tamworth until February 25, 2028.
The banned zone encompasses the entire town centre, stretching from Lichfield Street and Aldergate in the north to Saxon Drive, Bolebridge Street, Ankerdrive, and Riverdrive in the south. It also includes the Castle Grounds.
Strict Conditions of the Ban
Under the terms of the CBO, Wyatt is only permitted to enter the restricted area for specific, pre-arranged purposes. These include medical appointments, solicitor meetings, family visits with prior notification to authorities, or visits to council buildings. Staffordshire Police have warned that any failure to comply with these conditions could result in imprisonment or a substantial fine.
Police Statement on Community Impact
PC Shannon Fearn of the Tamworth local policing team commented on the case, stating, “Criminal Behaviour Orders are one of the key tools we use to address individuals who persistently impact local communities in Tamworth and across Staffordshire. We are committed to utilising all available measures to tackle the issues that most affect our residents and businesses.”
The incident at the Travelodge is part of a pattern of behaviour that led to the imposition of this stringent order. Authorities emphasise that such measures are crucial for maintaining public safety and order in the area.
