A murder investigation is underway in the Black Country after a woman was discovered dead at a property in Oldbury, leading to the arrest of a teenager.

Discovery and Emergency Response

Police were called to an address on Barncroft Road in Oldbury in the early hours of Sunday, December 21. Officers and paramedics attended the scene where they found a woman who was unresponsive. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, she was sadly pronounced dead at the location.

Arrest and Police Investigation

Following the discovery, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody for questioning as the investigation progresses. Chief Inspector Imran Mirza of Sandwell Police stated that the woman's family are being supported by specialist officers during this traumatic time.

He described the inquiry as "fast-moving," confirming that detectives are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry. These include:

  • Reviewing local CCTV footage.
  • Conducting house-to-house enquiries with residents.
  • Examining forensic evidence gathered from the scene.

Chief Inspector Mirza added that residents will see an increased police presence in the area as officers work to gather evidence and offer reassurance to the local community.

Appeal for Information

West Midlands Police have launched a formal investigation into the woman's death. A spokesperson reiterated the appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

They urged the public to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting log number 400 of 21 December. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The police have not yet released the identity of the deceased woman, and the investigation continues at pace.
