A man from Walsall has denied that his three dogs, named Escobar, Betsy and Jezobel, injured two people. Andrew Salesman appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 11, to face the charges.
The 46-year-old, of Banfield Road, Darlaston, Walsall, pleaded not guilty to three counts of being the owner or person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. The charges relate to an incident on the same road on May 2 last year, involving one male and one female complainant.
According to the charges, Escobar is described as a black American bulldog cross, while Betsy and Jezobel are described as large bull breed crosses. Salesman, who wore a striped suit jacket and jeans, opted for a summary trial before magistrates or a judge at the same court.
A solicitor confirmed that the main issue in the case is that Salesman disputes that his dogs caused the injuries to the complainants. Prosecutor Lina Akhtar stated that several witnesses would be called to give evidence, including eyewitnesses to the incident and a dog legislation officer from West Midlands Police.
Due to a lack of court availability, the trial could not be scheduled until April next year. Salesman was granted unconditional bail.
