A raider has been jailed for breaking into a pensioner's home in the Black Country and stealing cash and bank cards. Glen Yates, 48, entered a property on Hungary Hill in Stourbridge at around 4am on November 16 last year while the occupants were asleep.
Yates searched through his victim's jeans and took cash and bank cards. He then used one of the stolen bank cards at a nearby petrol station. West Midlands Police reviewed CCTV footage from the petrol station, which led to Yates being identified as the burglar.
Yates, of Mount Road, Tividale, was arrested and charged with burglary and fraud. He admitted the offences in court and was sentenced to two years and one month in prison.
PC Luke Johnson, of Dudley Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Yates broke into the home of an innocent man in his 70s, stealing his money which he then went on to spend at a petrol station. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own homes and we are dedicated to ensuring offenders face justice for their crimes.”
