Binman's Festive 'Walking Christmas Tree' Uniform Spreads Joy for 12 Years
Binman's 'Walking Christmas Tree' uniform brings festive cheer

A refuse collector in Cambridgeshire is spreading unparalleled festive cheer this December, transforming his daily rounds into a dazzling spectacle of light and sound.

The 'Walking Christmas Tree' Tradition

Lenny Edwards, aged 59, has been brightening the streets for the past 12 years with his creatively decorated workwear. A refuse collector for the Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service, Lenny has earned the affectionate nickname 'Walking Christmas Tree' from local residents.

His normal orange hi-vis jacket is adorned with an array of Christmas decorations, including tinsel, lights, and jingle bells. This year, his display is more spectacular than ever, featuring over 700 LED lights and more than 500 jingle bells that chime as he completes his collections.

Spreading Community Joy

For Lenny, the elaborate effort is all about giving back to the community. "I’ve been doing this for years and it’s all about spreading joy in our community," he explained. "Seeing the smiles, waves, and hearing the laughter from residents makes every effort worthwhile."

He added, "If I can brighten someone’s day - even for a moment - it means the world to me. It’s my way of giving something back and keeping the festive spirit alive for everyone."

A particularly personal touch on his jacket are several hand-knitted bears, which were lovingly crafted by his wife, Pru.

Festive Flair on Two Wheels

Lenny's commitment to Christmas spirit doesn't end with his uniform. He also travels to work on a fully decorated Christmas bicycle, ensuring his festive journey begins long before he starts his collection route.

This long-standing tradition has made Lenny a beloved local figure, demonstrating how a simple, joyful act can have a profound impact on community morale during the festive season.
