A beloved binman has been tragically killed after a lorry crashed into a house in a quiet Herefordshire market town.
A Life Cut Short
Andzie “Stan” Stanik, 60, lost his life in the devastating collision which occurred at the junction of Mill Street, Bridge Street and Broad Street in Leominster. The incident took place at approximately 6.40am on Monday, November 11.
Mr Stanik, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. West Mercia Police confirmed that three people were in the lorry at the time of the collision. The building that was struck was fortunately empty.
A Family's Heartbreak
In an emotional statement, the family of Andzie Stanik expressed their profound grief and shock. They described being in “complete disbelief and utter heartbreak” following the sudden loss of their father.
Known affectionately as Stan, he was a man of simple pleasures. His family fondly recalled his love for a pint of Guinness at his local pub, long walks with his beloved terrier Bella, and cheering on Hereford FC at the weekend. He was a devoted father to his children, Tilly, Alfie, and Charlie.
“Dad was ‘on the bins’ around the Herefordshire area for over 25 years so we know his friendly face will be missed,” the family shared, highlighting his long-standing service to the community.
They poignantly added that they were “struggling to comprehend what has happened,” noting the surreal nature of losing someone so suddenly on an ordinary Tuesday. The family has requested privacy and asked the public to avoid online speculation to allow police investigations to proceed.
Police Investigation Underway
Superintendent Helen Wain of West Mercia Police offered condolences and confirmed the details of the fatal incident. “Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision and it has now been confirmed that sadly a man in his 60s, who was a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene,” she stated.
