Pub bosses in the Midlands have been left utterly bewildered after a snowman was brazenly stolen from outside their premises in a bizarre late-night incident.
The Frosty Felony Caught on Camera
Bizarre CCTV footage has captured the moment a snowman, affectionately named Sammy by regulars, was pinched from outside The Potter pub in the Longton area of Stoke-on-Trent. The incident occurred at around 10pm on Sunday, January 4. The video shows a group of three people walking past the establishment before one man, distinguished by a green hat, makes his move.
The individual is seen jogging across the snow-covered road, swiping the frosty figure from its perch, and then making a swift escape up the street. The snowman had been lovingly built by the pub's regulars, adding to the sense of communal loss.
Pub Management 'Gobsmacked' by Strange Theft
Pub site manager Callum Chadwick expressed his confusion after reviewing the footage. "I watched back the footage and saw these three fellas walking down the street," he said. "One of them ran over the road, snatched it and then scarpered off up the end of the street."
He confirmed that while the theft was upsetting, it was not a matter for a formal police report. The primary reaction was one of pure puzzlement. "We just couldn't understand why someone would want to steal a snowman," Chadwick admitted. "We have no idea who they were and I suspect we'll never find out. Who is going to admit stealing a snowman from a pub?"
Social Media Buzz Over Icy Crime
Since the footage was shared, the peculiar crime has caused quite a stir on social media, amassing a huge number of responses. The public's reaction has ranged from amusement to shared bewilderment at the motive behind the frosty abduction.
"It was just all very strange," concluded Chadwick, summarising the feelings of his team and patrons. The theft of Sammy the Snowman remains a cold case in more ways than one, a quirky story that has briefly lit up a winter's news cycle in Staffordshire.
