Flintshire Teenager Crowned Young Ambassador of the Year 2025

A dedicated teenager from Flintshire has been honoured with the prestigious title of Flintshire Young Ambassador of the Year 2025. This accolade recognises his outstanding commitment to youth sport and extensive volunteering efforts within his local community.

Recognition for Community Contribution

Ethan Trevor, aged 15 and hailing from Aston, received this distinguished award through the Youth Sport Trust Wales Young Ambassador programme. This nationally recognised initiative is funded and supported by Sport Wales and the National Lottery, highlighting its significance in promoting youth engagement and development.

For the past two years, Ethan has volunteered with Gwella Sport Development, actively supporting extra-curricular school sports clubs and various community activities across Flintshire. He began his volunteering journey at the age of 13 and has since embraced a diverse range of responsibilities.

Diverse Volunteering Roles and Impact

Ethan's contributions extend beyond school-based activities. He has played a key role in supporting Fit, Fed and Read sessions during the summer holidays, helping to create a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment for children and families. His dedication has also seen him volunteer at regional and national sporting events, including activities delivered in partnership with the Football Association of Wales, and he attended the Gareth Bale Festival of Sport in Newport.

Reflecting on his achievement, Ethan shared his journey: “I first met the Gwella Sports Development Team when I started high school in 2021. Two years ago I was given the chance to volunteer with the Fit, Fed and Read scheme, which led to me joining the youth ambassador team.”

He added: “Being involved since I was 13 has boosted my confidence and helped me develop leadership skills that will support me in college and future job opportunities.”

Supporting Youth Development Across Flintshire

Gwella Sport Development currently supports 42 young volunteers and ambassadors across Flintshire, all of whom are actively involved in extra-curricular activities within their schools and local communities. A spokesperson for Gwella Sport Development praised Ethan's efforts, stating: “Ethan is a fantastic example of how young people can develop confidence, leadership and real-world skills when they are supported to get involved locally.”

This award not only celebrates Ethan's individual achievements but also underscores the broader impact of youth volunteering programmes in fostering community spirit and personal growth among young people in Flintshire.
