Local Artist Natalie Coe to Create 150sqm Mural for Nottingham Broad Marsh
Artist Natalie Coe to Paint 150sqm Mural in Nottingham

Local artist Natalie Coe has been selected to create a spectacular new public artwork as part of the Broad Marsh redevelopment in Nottingham city centre. The 150-square-metre mural will be installed on Severn's House, a prominent new building visible from Middle Pavement.

Community-Inspired Design

Natalie Coe, known for her vibrant abstract style, was chosen by a panel including local community representatives. Her final design will draw directly on ideas shared by residents during a public consultation, which highlighted a desire for a greener, more welcoming, and people-focused city centre.

Natalie said: “Being chosen to create this mural is hugely exciting, an honour I don't take lightly. I've spent time with the community feedback gathered about Broadmarsh, and that history and emotion is the starting point for everything. I can't wait to create a large-scale artwork that visibly transforms this space for everyone, creating a new chapter that says: we see you, this place is loved, this place is alive and changing. Honestly, it makes my heart sing.”

Project Partners and Future Use

The project is produced by local charity City Arts (Nottingham) alongside Art Fest, with funding from Homes England. Once complete, Severn's House will host the University of Nottingham’s new 'Connect Nottingham' and 'City as Lab' facilities, as well as the Nottingham Urban Room for residents to discuss the city's future.

Suzannah Bedford, Director of City Arts (Nottingham), said: “We're delighted to be working with Natalie and Art Fest on this exciting new commission. Public art helps us feel connected to the places around us.”

Jo Nugent, from Homes England, added: “The Broad Marsh site is a once in a generation chance to reshape a major part of Nottingham city centre. We are pleased to have commissioned Natalie, an exciting Nottingham artist, to design a new mural to reanimate the street scene around Severn’s House.”

Professor Paul Grainge, from the University of Nottingham, praised the choice, noting that the striking artwork will bring a distinct "feeling of joy" to the bold new community space.
