Fans of the beloved Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up have reason to celebrate, as star Glen Powell has publicly confirmed his enthusiasm for making a sequel with co-star Zoey Deutch.
A Long-Awaited Sequel Confirmation
During a recent interview while playing The Most Impossible Glen Powell Quiz for Capital Buzz, the actor was shown a screenshot of his character's arm from the 2018 film. After correctly identifying it as a scene from Set It Up, Powell was asked directly about the potential for a follow-up film.
His response was immediate and enthusiastic: "Oh my God, yeah!" Powell confirmed that he and Deutch remain close friends and frequently discuss the possibility. "I mean Zoey and I are still great friends. We talk about that all the time," he revealed, offering hope to fans who have been requesting a sequel since the original film debuted.
How a Sequel Might Look
Powell did note that any potential sequel would need to acknowledge the characters' growth since the original film, where they played overworked assistants who conspire to set up their bosses only to fall for each other. "Obviously, it wouldn't be us as assistants. That would be sad at this point in my life," he joked, suggesting the storyline would need to evolve.
The actor, who has since starred in major productions like Anyone But You, Twisters, and The Running Man, was effusive in his praise for Deutch, calling her an "incredible actress" and recalling that they had "the best time making that movie." He expressed confidence that they would collaborate again, stating: "I'm sure Zoey and I will get back in the trenches on something together."
Powell's Character Choice for Survival
In a separate segment of the interview, Powell was asked which of his characters would fare best in the dystopian game show world of The Running Man. Surprisingly, he selected Charlie from Set It Up, explaining that survival requires logistical thinking and resourcefulness.
"I'm gonna say Charlie in Set It Up does the best on The Running Man," Powell stated. "Surviving is a logistical nightmare. There's a lot of things. You gotta ditch the cellphone. You gotta figure out how to move around the country." He concluded with a nod to his character's background, adding: "I feel like assistants know how to do the things."
The full interview, including Powell's discussion about Set It Up 2 and the quiz, is available to watch online, giving fans the complete insight into the actor's thoughts on returning to one of his most cherished roles.
