Birmingham-born music and TV star Jamelia has left fans stunned after revealing the unconventional beauty secret behind her remarkably youthful appearance as she approaches her 45th birthday.
The 'Controversial' Skincare Confession
In a candid social media post, the Handsworth-raised singer, who now lives in Dubai, shared a close-up, makeup-free selfie. She was immediately flooded with comments from followers and famous friends alike, all marvelling that she still looks 21. The mother-of-four, famed for her early 2000s hit 'Superstar', decided to answer the most frequent question she receives: what is her skincare routine?
Jamelia's number one tip is certainly unexpected. I don’t use water on my face. Ever, she revealed. The former Hollyoaks actress explained that she made this radical change over two decades ago, around the age of 19, because her sensitive skin reacted badly to different water types as she travelled for work.
A Routine Evolved Over Decades
Initially, she relied on baby wipes, but in the 2000s, makeup artist @babskymakeup introduced her to cream cleansers. This one change made the biggest difference for me, Jamelia stated, highlighting the importance of finding what works for sensitive complexions. She noted that her specific products have evolved with her skin's needs and her recent move to a new climate, promising to share more detailed routines soon.
The star, who has a leading role in the new BBC Three comedy Just Act Normal, received glowing feedback. Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse commented, Skin is saying 25 though, while other fans exclaimed she looked about 12 and was giving 21.
Life in Dubai with Her Daughters
The skincare revelation comes as Jamelia continues to settle into her new life in Dubai, where she moved permanently in March 2025 with her four daughters: Teja, 24, Tiani, 19, True, 7, and Jream, 2. She left the UK for a fresh start after being left to raise her children alone in 2022.
I've been single for three years, Jamelia said, choosing not to dwell on her past partner. It's just me and the four girls. She explained that while she began her single motherhood journey in the UK, she ultimately decided she needed more support, now benefitting from a great community and a live-in nanny in her new home.
