West Midlands Lavender Farm, a popular attraction near Birmingham, has opened its gates for the summer season with an exciting new addition: a vineyard. The farm, located in the countryside of the West Midlands, now offers visitors the chance to explore lavender fields and enjoy wine tasting from its own vineyard.
New Vineyard and Wine Tasting Experience
The farm has planted several acres of grapevines, which are now producing wine for the first time. Visitors can sample a range of wines, including a sparkling white and a rosé, made from grapes grown on site. The vineyard is part of a diversification project to attract more visitors and extend the season beyond the traditional lavender bloom.
According to the farm's owner, Sarah Jenkins, the vineyard has been a long-term ambition. "We've always wanted to create something unique that combines the beauty of lavender with the pleasure of wine. It's been a challenging but rewarding journey, and we're thrilled to welcome guests to try our wines," she said.
Family-Friendly Activities and Lavender Fields
In addition to the vineyard, the farm offers a variety of family-friendly activities. Children can enjoy a play area, while adults can stroll through the lavender fields, which are in full bloom from June to August. The farm also has a café serving lavender-infused treats and a shop selling products like lavender oil, honey, and soap.
The farm is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, with extended hours on weekends. Admission is £5 for adults, £3 for children, and free for under-fives. Wine tasting costs an additional £10 per person.
Economic Impact and Visitor Numbers
The farm attracted over 50,000 visitors last year, and with the new vineyard, expects numbers to increase by at least 20% this summer. The expansion has created five new jobs, boosting the local economy. The farm also sources produce from local suppliers, supporting other businesses in the region.
"We're proud to contribute to the local community and offer a unique day out for families and wine enthusiasts alike," Jenkins added.
How to Get There
The farm is located just off the M6 motorway, about 15 miles from Birmingham city centre. There is ample free parking on site. Public transport options include a bus service from Birmingham to the nearby village, with a short walk to the farm.
