The Black Country has outperformed Birmingham in the latest Great British Pub Awards shortlist, with three pubs from the region securing nominations across different categories, while Birmingham managed only one entry. The awards, which celebrate the best pubs across the nation, have recognised establishments from the West Midlands, Staffordshire, and Shropshire.
Birmingham's Sole Nominee
The Kings Arms in Kings Heath, Birmingham, is the city's only representative, shortlisted in the Best Pub to Watch Sport category. This leaves Birmingham trailing behind its neighbour in terms of recognition.
Black Country's Trio of Nominations
Three Black Country pubs have been shortlisted: The Milestone in Willenhall, nominated for Best Community Pub; Cock 'N' Bull.Co in Stourbridge, nominated for Best Town Pub; and the Ashmore Inn, nominated for Best Admiral Taverns Pub. These nominations highlight the strength of the region's pub culture.
Regional Success Beyond the Black Country
Other West Midlands pubs also made the shortlist. The Tamworth Tap in Tamworth, Staffordshire, is in the running for Best Beer Pub, while The Charlton Arms in Ludlow, Shropshire, competes for Best Pub for Food. The Crown at Albrighton in Shropshire is nominated for Best Marston's Pub.
Awards Organisers Praise Entries
A spokesperson for the Great British Pub Awards said: "After receiving an incredible number of top-quality entries for this year's Great British Pub Awards, our panel of expert judges have whittled it down to the very best the nation has to offer." The winners will be announced later this year.
