Off Campus star Ella Bright has responded to concerns about the nine-year age gap between her and on-screen love interest Belmont Cameli. In an interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the 19-year-old actress addressed the discourse surrounding her age compared to her 28-year-old co-star.
Ella Bright Speaks Out on Age Gap Concerns
Bright explained that she entered the project fully informed about the role's requirements. 'Listen, I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required in the show, and I just fell in love with Hannah and these scripts immediately,' she said. 'There was never a question that I wouldn't want to do this.'
She acknowledged viewers' concerns but emphasized that she never felt excluded. 'I get people's concern, but also not once did I feel one, left out from being younger than everybody. We're all such a family and like everyone was just more than perfect and I couldn't be more comfortable on the set with these people.' Bright added that she finds the discourse amusing, stating, 'It is funny when they said that. I'm like, I'm good.'
Showrunner Defends Casting
Showrunner Louisa Levy also addressed the issue in an interview with Variety, revealing that she had a detailed conversation with Bright before finalizing her contract. 'She'd read the book, so she already understood, but I walked her through everything and made sure she was comfortable and confident,' Levy said. 'If I had felt she wasn't ready, I would have pumped the brakes immediately.'
The age gap has been a topic of discussion on social media, with viral TikTok videos comparing the ages of the cast. Despite the concerns, Bright remains confident in her decision to take on the role, which has garnered significant attention for its sexual content and nudity.
