If you are searching for a hearty roast option for Father's Day, then we would be remiss not to remind you about the new Birmingham restaurant that goes all out on Sundays. This year marks Blacklock's first Father's Day in Birmingham, the chophouse having moved into the old Pigeon Park vicarage back in April.
While the restaurant serves massive sharing platters of chops—lamb, beef, or pork—throughout the week, on Sundays, chefs pack away the grills and stoke up the fire pits to roast meat over the coals. The old-fashioned cooking method is befitting of the restaurant itself: the heritage building it occupies had been empty for years before Blacklock moved in, restoring some of its old features to make it feel grand once again.
What to Expect on Father's Day
Expect crisp duck fat roasties with fluffy middles, Yorkshire puddings, fresh vegetables on the side, and vegetarian options if you have one in your party. The 'all in' menu is for sharers, offering a mix of 55-day aged beef rump, dry-aged lamb, and 21-day aged pork roasts with all the trimmings for £28 per person, provided there are two or more of you. If you need more of Blacklock's rich gravy, the team will keep topping you up. If you have room left after the main course, the house cheesecake also features 'say when' portion control, so make sure you leave space.
Location and Nearby Attractions
Blacklock faces Birmingham Cathedral, so you can pop there after the Choral Eucharist service, or before or after Choral Evensong, and enjoy listening to the choir in the precious historic St Philip's while seeing the light streaming through the Edward Burne-Jones-designed stained glass windows. Alternatively, if church Sundays are not your thing, you can swing by the Old Joint Stock on the other side of Pigeon Park for a pint in one of the city's spectacular old boozers.
If you are looking to maximise your time in town, the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is offering a bespoke tour this Sunday where you can explore film and TV locations. The Locationist's BMAG On Film exclusive tour will take you to parts of the museum not usually open to the public and to spaces where they filmed scenes from Netflix hit Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, BBC's Silent Witness, The Game, Amazon Prime's Citadel, The Colour Room, and KingsMan: The Golden Circle.
If you would rather just go and watch the football, there is a full list of where to watch the sporting action, with sports bars, pubs, and some more unusual recommendations available.
