Harrogate International Festivals Celebrates Six Decades of Musical Excellence
Harrogate International Festivals is proudly commemorating its 60th anniversary with a spectacular summer season filled with world-class classical music performances. The HACS Harrogate Music Festival 2026, scheduled to run from June 6 to July 12, will bring together both legendary names and rising stars to the historic spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire.
A Rich Legacy of Musical Icons
Over the past six decades, the festival has established itself as a premier cultural event, welcoming iconic figures such as Jacqueline du Pré, Dame Janet Baker, Sir Simon Rattle, and Julian Lloyd Webber, alongside some of the world's most renowned orchestras. This year's anniversary edition continues this tradition of excellence with an impressive lineup that promises to captivate audiences.
Orchestral Highlights at the Royal Hall
Audiences will be treated to two spectacular orchestral performances at the Royal Hall. On June 24, the Aurora Orchestra will take the stage, celebrated for their innovative concerts performed entirely from memory. Their Harrogate programme includes Jessie Montgomery's Strum, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12, and Symphony No. 41 'Jupiter'.
The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra returns on July 5, presenting a programme featuring Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with Classic FM Rising Star Hana Chang, Farrenc's Overture No.1, and Brahms' Symphony No.1. This evening performance will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3, allowing a wider audience to experience the magic.
Diverse Performances Across Venues
Beyond the orchestral concerts, festival-goers can enjoy a variety of unique performances. Genre-defying cellist Abel Selaocoe and his Bantu Ensemble will perform at Ashville College on June 6. Grammy-nominated artist Davóne Tines will present his only North of England recital of the season at the Wesley Centre on June 12.
Additionally, festival favourites Oddsocks will return with their distinctive interpretation of Romeo and Juliet at RHS Harlow Carr on June 30 and July 1, adding a theatrical twist to the musical celebrations.
Leadership Enthusiasm for the Anniversary Season
Managing director of The HACS Group, Mark Smith, expressed his pride in supporting the festival, stating, "We're proud to support the Music Festival, a highlight of Harrogate's cultural calendar. Looking at this line-up, audiences are in for a real treat."
