Residents of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region are being presented with a unique opportunity to appear on screen in the highly anticipated next instalment of the iconic crime drama, Peaky Blinders. A television and film casting agency has issued an open call for supporting artists to join the cast of the upcoming sequel series.
Seeking Authentic Brummie Faces
The production is actively looking for local people to bring authenticity to its depiction of 1950s Birmingham. The series, created by acclaimed Small Heath writer and director Steven Knight, is renowned for utilising local talent and filming in locations across the city and West Midlands, including the Black Country Living Museum.
The 1950s Hairstyle Requirement
There is, however, one specific condition for potential applicants. All supporting artists must have a hairstyle appropriate for the 1950s setting. For men, this includes short back and sides, crew cuts, or quiffed rock 'n' roll styles. Women are required to have soft, coiffed curls or short "sculpted" cuts to accurately reflect the period.
Interested individuals are instructed to apply by emailing applications@celex.co.uk to be considered for the casting call.
A New Chapter in Post-War Birmingham
The new series will be a sequel to the original show, picking up the narrative in the year 1953. It will depict Birmingham in the midst of a massive reconstruction effort following the heavy bombing it sustained during World War II. The storyline will centre on a brutal contest for control over the city's rebuilding project, introducing viewers to a fresh generation of the Shelby family.
Timeline and Broadcast Details
This sequel series will continue the story after the events of the forthcoming Peaky Blinders feature film, titled The Immortal Man, which is currently in post-production. The film is scheduled for a cinematic release beginning March 6, followed by streaming on Netflix from March 20. A world premiere for the film is planned to take place in Birmingham, although a specific date has not yet been confirmed.
The official description for The Immortal Man reveals: "Amidst the chaos of World War Two, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet." The sequel series will then advance the saga into the next decade, exploring a transformed city and its emerging power struggles.
