Escape to the Country star Richie Anderson has offered fans a glimpse behind the curtain of the beloved BBC programme, sharing off-camera moments and secrets from his time on the show.
Anderson, who joined the property series last year, described his role as “rewarding.” The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant appears alongside presenters Sonali Shah, Briony May Williams, and Alistair Appleton, guiding potential buyers to their dream rural homes.
Taking to social media, Anderson teased what filming is really like, listing “10 things I’ve learned as a presenter on BBC One’s Escape to the Country.” He highlighted that filming occurs in “jaw dropping locations” where the countryside acts as a “cheat filter,” making outfits pop against the rural backdrops.
He noted that animals are often on set and are “very well behaved,” adding that he now keeps wellies and walking boots in his car. Anderson praised the show’s team for finding beautiful houses and described the house hunters as “always so lovely,” calling it a “privilege to share their stories.”
Sharing an image of himself playing badminton while on location, he said it’s fun to find ways to keep fit during shoots. He also commended the production team, stating, “The team that work on this show are out of this world and I learn so much from them on every shoot.”
Anderson delivered his final off-camera moments, declaring that “on a good day, the British seaside is unrivalled” and that he has ticked off bucket list items like steering a barge down a canal. He praised his fellow presenters as “talented and kind,” though noted he lacks a group photo.
He concluded by encouraging viewers to watch the current series on BBC iPlayer, saying, “Basically I’m having a ball.”
Fans responded warmly, with comments like “Loving the series” and “You bring a real joy to the programme.” Another wrote, “You are such a joy to watch Richie.”
Anderson previously told BBC Radio WM that the team is “absolutely amazing” and that the show is “so rewarding.” He added, “These house hunters – you’re really rooting for them and it’s my job to get their stories out of them.”
Escape to the Country airs weekdays at 2.45pm on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
