Simpsons Birmingham Closes After 32 Years

Birmingham's longest-established Michelin Star restaurant, Simpsons in Edgbaston, has closed its doors after 32 years, leaving foodies devastated.

Shock Closure Announced

The restaurant, which earned its Michelin star in 1999, shut down on Thursday. Boss Andreas Antona revealed he was 'left with no choice' after three failed sales attempts over the past 18 months.

Antona stated: 'I didn't want it to end like this, but with the economy as it stands, it is the most sensible decision.' He added that in his '50 plus years in hospitality I have never known a more challenging economic climate for restaurants.'

Statement on Social Media

In a Facebook post, Antona wrote: 'It is with regret that I must announce the closure of Simpsons following 32 years in business.' He emphasized the time and money invested to keep the restaurant going but concluded that closure was the most sensible decision.

The closure marks the end of an era for Birmingham's fine dining scene. Simpsons had been a staple in Edgbaston for over three decades, known for its exceptional cuisine and service.

Food lovers and industry peers have expressed their sadness and support for the team. Many have taken to social media to share memories and thank Antona for his contribution to the city's culinary reputation.
