The Met Office has warned that thunderstorms are on the horizon after the weekend's heatwave in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Temperatures surpassed 30C over the weekend but have since fallen to more comfortable levels. On Monday, July 13, temperatures are around 26C, and they are not expected to rise above 30C for the rest of the week.
Weekend Heatwave Gives Way to Cooler Conditions
Following the recent heatwave, the region is experiencing a cooldown. The hottest day this week will be Wednesday, with a predicted high of 29C. By Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will drop to 24C. However, overcast skies could bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms, according to the Met Office.
Detailed Forecast for Monday
For Monday, the Met Office states: "A grey start in places this morning, but the cloud will quickly burn away to leave a largely sunny day with just a little fair weather cloud. Breezy, especially over the hills but feeling very warm once again. Maximum temperature 28 °C." The evening will be fine and dry, leading to a largely clear night, with some patchy low cloud developing later, mainly in the east. A warm night, especially in cities, with a minimum temperature of 14 °C.
Tuesday's Outlook
For Tuesday, the forecast predicts: "Another dry and very warm day expected, although perhaps a little more cloud around compared to of late. Winds lighter adding to the very warm feel. Maximum temperature 30 °C."
Wednesday to Friday: Thunderstorm Risk
The outlook for Wednesday to Friday indicates: "Largely dry and settled throughout with plenty of sunshine. A small chance of a few thunderstorms, but most areas will avoid them. Staying hot by day and warm by night."
The Met Office advises residents to stay updated on weather warnings as the week progresses, as the thunderstorm risk, though small, could bring localised disruptions.
