Heatwave-Proof Outdoor Classroom Opens at Lime Tree Primary

A new outdoor classroom, designed to withstand heatwaves, has been officially opened at Lime Tree Primary School and Nursery in Merstham. The facility, funded by two years of fundraising by the Friends of Lime Tree parent-teacher association, was inaugurated during a ceremony where the head girl and head boy cut the ribbon in front of pupils and staff.

Heatwave-Proof Design

The classroom is specifically designed to provide a shaded learning environment, making it ideal for hot weather. Headteacher Emma Skipper described it as 'heatwave-proof', allowing children to continue learning outdoors comfortably even during extreme temperatures. She noted that the investment would pay off through enhanced learning opportunities and the visible joy of the students.

Fundraising Effort

The Friends of Lime Tree raised funds over two years to make the project possible. Skipper expressed gratitude for their efforts, stating, 'I’m incredibly grateful to the Friends of Lime Tree for all their amazing fundraising, which made this all possible.' The classroom represents a significant investment in the school's infrastructure, aimed at maximizing outdoor learning while protecting students from heat.
