The early May Bank Holiday weekend is nearly here, and many are wondering what the weather has in store. According to the Met Office, it will be a mixed bag of sunshine and showers across the UK.
Friday 1st May: A Warm Start
Friday is expected to be hot, with temperatures rising ahead of the weekend. However, conditions will become more unsettled by the evening, with rain and possibly thundery showers spreading from the southwest.
Saturday 2nd May: Sunny Intervals and Showers
Saturday will bring a combination of sunny intervals and showers, with lighter winds. London and surrounding areas could see highs of around 22°C, making it the warmest day of the weekend for the capital.
Sunday 3rd May: Cooler with Rain Risk
Sunday sees a dip in temperature, with highs of 18°C. The chance of rain increases, but overall it should still be a reasonable day for outdoor plans.
Monday 4th May: Dry but Unsettled
Monday will be similar to Sunday, with dry interludes and spells of warm sunshine. There is a risk of early morning fog patches, especially near coasts. Temperatures will be close to normal for early May.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree said: "By Friday, conditions are expected to become more unsettled, with rain and showers spreading in from the southwest, some of which could be heavy and possibly thundery. Into the Bank Holiday weekend, the weather looks more changeable, with showers at times – particularly in the north – but also some sunnier intervals."
Overall, the bank holiday weekend will offer a mix of weather, so it's best to be prepared for both sunshine and rain if you have plans.
