UK Heatwave Won't Hit Everywhere: Three Regions Miss Out

The UK heatwave 'won't hit everywhere,' the BBC Weather team has warned, with meteorologists identifying three major regions likely to escape the warm spell. BBC forecaster Darren Bett stated that while many places will enjoy warm weather with temperatures reaching 26°C over the long weekend, some areas may experience showers.

Regions Likely to Miss Out

Speaking on Tuesday, May 19, ahead of the Bank Holiday, Mr Bett explained: 'There could be some showers around on Saturday, particularly in Scotland, Wales and western parts of England.' These three regions are at risk of missing the heatwave. He added that showers on Sunday should be confined to southern England as high pressure builds across northern parts of the UK.

Outlook for the Weekend

'Monday is looking dry but an easterly wind is expected to develop, which will keep North Sea coastal areas cooler,' Mr Bett continued. The Met Office has forecast soaring temperatures for the days ahead, with hopes of 28°C at times as the UK experiences its hottest weekend of the year so far. In an update from May 23, the Met Office stated: 'Saturday will be warm with some showery weather and even a chance of thunderstorms in places. Then by Sunday and through Bank Holiday Monday, warm and fair weather is expected to prevail.'

Long-Term Forecast

Through the following week, high pressure is expected to remain in place for much of the UK, bringing fine weather for most of the country. 'There may be occasions where low pressure to the north may bring some brief spells of rain across northern parts, but in general fair weather will dominate,' the Met Office added. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, feeling very warm at times with light winds. The next update on Tuesday will examine the longevity of the high pressure presence through late May and into June, according to the BBC.

Netweather TV notes that temperatures will rise into the twenties Celsius. In the first half of the week, a change to a westerly flow off the Atlantic follows the chilly northerly, but there will be bands of rain and plenty of heavy showers.
