Birmingham Water Bill Savings: Up to £411 with Severn Trent

Severn Trent Expands Financial Support for Birmingham Households

Residents across Birmingham and the Midlands can now access enhanced financial assistance from Severn Trent, with potential savings of up to £411 on their water bills. The water company, which serves the region, has significantly increased its support offerings, positioning itself as having one of the most comprehensive financial aid programs in the industry.

Increased Thresholds and New Eligibility Checker

The Big Difference Scheme, a key initiative by Severn Trent, has raised its income thresholds to help more households. Eligible customers can now receive up to £410 off their bills, an increase from the previous £390, and the scheme now includes those with incomes up to £24,454. To streamline access, Severn Trent has introduced a new online eligibility checker, allowing customers to instantly determine what support they qualify for. Remarkably, over 90% of users have discovered they are eligible for some form of assistance through this tool.

Comprehensive Support Services

Beyond direct bill reductions, Severn Trent offers a wide array of support options designed to alleviate financial pressure. These include flexible payment plans, debt support programs such as matching plus to help pay off account debts, and the Water Direct scheme for paying bills through benefits. Additional services encompass the WaterSure program, which caps water meter bills for large families or those with medical conditions requiring extra water use, and the Single Occupier tariff for individuals living alone without a meter.

The company also provides smart meter installations, enabling customers to better monitor and control their water usage and associated costs. For broader financial guidance, the Customer Assistance Scheme offers free debt advice, income maximisation support, and assistance with purchasing essential white goods.

Long-Term Investment and Community Impact

Severn Trent is committed to a substantial £15 billion investment by 2030, aimed at developing new infrastructure, securing water sources, and creating thousands of jobs in the region, all while striving to keep bills as low as possible. This investment aligns with the company's goal to financially assist one in six households by 2030.

Mark Grice, External Relationships Manager at Severn Trent, emphasised the timing of this support expansion. "Now is the time to check out what support we have available, as we know in April people will start to see the impact from all bill increases, and we want people to know there's help with their water bill if they need it," he stated. "While the water bill is one of the cheapest, we know with other utility bills, TV licence, petrol, it's important that if there's any way to save, you can. That's why we have made it easy for customers to understand what help is there, and have plenty of on hand help to guide people through their bill and getting the right support."
