Dead Python Discovered in Solihull's Babbs Mill Lake by Local Father and Son
A father and his son made a shocking discovery while exploring Babbs Mill Lake in Solihull, finding a dead python floating in the water. The incident occurred on Monday, April 6, at this popular beauty spot, raising questions about the snake's origins.
Unusual Reptile Sighting During Family Outing
The father, who wished to remain anonymous, was enjoying a day out with his son when they spotted the large yellow snake. Initially mistaken for a piece of rope by another passerby, the father insisted he could see scales and used a big stick to pull the deceased python from the lake. He described the snake as quite far into the water and confirmed it was dead upon retrieval.
The father expressed uncertainty about how the python ended up in the lake, stating he was unsure if it had been dumped or escaped from captivity. This tragic find has prompted concerns among local residents about pet disposal and wildlife safety in the area.
Community Reaction and Council Reporting
Images of the snake were shared in a Facebook neighbourhood group, where residents voiced their sadness and speculation. Marie Shelby commented, "Very sad. You don't just throw something away. I hope that this isn't what it seems and it's just an accident." Jake Withephotos agreed, saying, "Someone's pet has either got out or been dumped. Either way, it's a shame." Heather Jones added, "What a beautiful creature. So sad."
The father reported the discovery to Solihull Council, highlighting the need for awareness about responsible pet ownership and environmental care. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks when exotic animals are released or abandoned in natural habitats.
