Nine Dogs Found Dead at Shifnal Boarding Kennels

West Mercia Police have launched an investigation following the distressing discovery of nine deceased dogs at a boarding kennel in Shifnal. The incident, which has prompted involvement from the RSPCA, occurred at Hatton Boarding Kennels on Wolverhampton Road.

Tragic Discovery at Boarding Facility

The animals were reportedly found on Thursday, January 15, at the Shifnal-based kennels. In addition to the nine dogs, three living cats were also discovered at the same address, according to initial reports. The bodies of the deceased dogs have been removed to a veterinary surgery for further examination.

RSPCA and Police Collaboration

A spokesperson for the RSPCA confirmed the charity's involvement, stating: "We have been liaising with West Mercia Police on this incident; however, as this is an active investigation, we are limited in what information we can share at this time."

The spokesperson expressed gratitude toward members of the public who report concerns about animal welfare, adding: "We're so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare."

Ongoing Care for Surviving Animals

Reports indicate that the three cats found at the premises are currently being cared for by a charitable organisation. The RSPCA has emphasised its commitment to thoroughly examining all aspects of this case as part of the ongoing police investigation.

This incident has raised significant concerns about animal welfare standards at boarding facilities and highlights the importance of regulatory oversight in such establishments. The collaboration between West Mercia Police and the RSPCA demonstrates the seriousness with which authorities are treating this matter.
