Beverley Callard Opens Up About Feeling 'Unfeminine' During Cancer Battle
Beverley Callard: 'I Don't Feel Like a Woman' Amid Cancer

Beverley Callard Shares Heartfelt Cancer Journey Update

Former Coronation Street star Beverley Callard, best known for her role as Liz McDonald, has posted a candid video update with her followers, discussing her ongoing breast cancer treatment. In the emotional clip, the 68-year-old actress confessed she no longer feels like a woman, describing it as a significant mental battle.

Public Disclosure and Treatment Details

Callard first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis during an interview on Ireland's Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty. Since then, she has been openly sharing her journey on social media. Recently, she underwent an operation to remove some lymph nodes as a preventative measure, and she may require radiotherapy in the coming weeks to eliminate the cancer completely.

Emotional Struggles Amid Public Appearances

Despite maintaining a cheerful demeanor for a London event for ITV, Beverley disclosed she has been experiencing moments of doubt and emotional turbulence. Just hours before recording her video, she admitted feeling unfeminine and questioned her readiness to attend the event, stating it was only two weeks post-operation.

She told her followers: "I don't feel like a woman anymore, I feel unfeminine and I shouldn't be doing this. It's two weeks since my operation and everybody said it's too soon and they're right." Despite these feelings, she managed to pull herself together, emphasizing her determination to move forward.

Previous Updates and Recovery Progress

A week after her surgery, Beverley appeared in another video on Instagram, where she tearfully admitted to finding things tough. Makeup-free and emotional, she shared: "Full disclosure, it's a week today since my operation and I woke up this morning and I put yesterday's clothes on. I've not cleaned my teeth, I've not combed my hair. I can't answer my phone because if somebody says a kind word to me, I just cry."

In a more positive update, Beverley, who has been married to her fourth husband Jon McEwan since 2010, announced she does not need a second operation. She revealed that swelling under her arm is softening and turning into fluid, which will be absorbed by her system. Her consultant provided hopeful news, suggesting she could be declared cancer-free within weeks pending further tests.

Future Steps and Optimism

Callard explained the next stages of her treatment: "In about four weeks, we will find out if she managed to get all the cancer out and we'll also get the results of whether it was in the lymph nodes or not. If I'm cancer-free, then, a few weeks after that, I will begin radiotherapy. If I'm not cancer-free, then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I have a feeling I will be."

Throughout her updates, Beverley has shown resilience, encouraging others going through similar struggles. She captioned one video: "Off to an event in London, and I must say it's been a bit of a mental battle to get myself out the door. But I'm doing it." Her openness continues to inspire and support many facing cancer battles.
