Residents in Birmingham have been left furious after a stinking, rotting mountain of uncollected rubbish has been festering outside a block of flats for up to six weeks. The overflowing communal bins, with black bin bags piled high on either side, are located on Barnwood Road, off Welsh House Farm Road in Harborne.
Health Hazard and Vermin
The unhygienic heap has not only created a horrible smell but has also attracted vermin, with a dead rat spotted next to the rubbish. Despite multiple calls to Birmingham City Council's complaints department, the waste has remained untouched for weeks.
Councillor Sam Forsyth described the sight as 'disgusting' and informed Harborne ward councillor Martin Brookes. He stated: "I found out about this last night, and reported it to the city operations team earlier this morning. I've asked them to deal with it urgently, and am waiting for a response."
Residents' Frustration
One resident expressed their exasperation: "This is what I have to live next to. I'm at the end of my tether. No collection for five or six weeks. I've called them three times, spoken to someone and called about ten automated services. It doesn't work and I'm going round and round in circles."
Another resident added: "That's absolutely atrocious! This city is a joke. Surely this is grounds for legal action?"
Council Response
Birmingham City Council is investigating the matter and will provide a statement shortly. The incident has sparked widespread anger among locals, who are demanding immediate action to address the ongoing waste collection issues in the area.
