Harborne Flats Get Urgent Bin Review After Massive Rubbish Clearance
Harborne Flats Bin Review After Rubbish Clearance

Residents of a block of flats in Harborne have expressed relief after a large pile of rubbish that had accumulated outside their building was finally removed. The waste, which consisted of numerous black bin bags overflowing from communal bins on Barnwood Road, had been a source of frustration for locals, with one resident claiming it had been there for up to six weeks.

Rubbish Cleared After Complaints

The resident, who contacted Birmingham City Council multiple times, said the situation had become unbearable. On Wednesday, June 17, the council’s bins service confirmed that the rubbish had been collected. They stated that all scheduled collections had been completed on time but acknowledged that the volume of waste and its presentation had caused concern.

A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: “We are aware of concerns raised regarding waste at Barnwood Road and can confirm that the waste has now been collected. Our data analytics show that all scheduled collections at this site have been completed on time in line with the collection schedule. However, we recognise that the volume of waste and how it is presented has caused concern for residents.”

Urgent Review of Bin Provision

To address the issue, the council has arranged for an urgent review of the bin provision at the flats. This will ensure that the property has the appropriate capacity in line with council policy and help prevent a recurrence. The council added: “We will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with residents to maintain a clean and safe environment.”

Councillor Martin Brookes, who represents Harborne, said he became aware of the problem the previous night and reported it to the city operations team early in the morning. He requested urgent action and is awaiting a response.
