King Charles III and Queen Camilla have touched down in the United States for their first state visit as monarchs. The royal couple landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Monday evening, April 27, marking the start of a four-day trip.
Their arrival comes just days after a security incident at a dinner attended by President Donald Trump, but Buckingham Palace confirmed the visit would proceed as planned. The palace expressed gratitude to all who worked to ensure the schedule remained unchanged.
Arrival in Maryland
The King was pictured in a blue suit as he descended the stairs from the royal jet, while Queen Camilla wore a pink dress and carried a handbag. They were greeted by U.S. Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley.
The couple were scheduled to have a private afternoon tea with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, followed by a tour of the White House Beehive on the South Lawn. An evening garden party was also planned, where guests would meet the King and Queen.
White House Welcome and State Dinner
On Tuesday, the royal couple will be formally welcomed at the White House, with President Trump delivering remarks on the South Lawn. The President and First Lady will exchange gifts with the King and Queen before a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.
That evening, a state dinner will be hosted in the East Room of the White House, featuring speeches from both sides.
Further Travel Plans
After their time in Washington, the King and Queen will travel to New York, then return to Washington to bid farewell to President Trump. The visit will conclude with a trip to Bermuda, where King Charles remains head of state.
This is the first state visit by a reigning British monarch to the United States since 2007.
