Wolves' Marshall Munetsi Faces January Exit Amid 'Deteriorating' Club Situation
Wolves' Munetsi could leave in January transfer window

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi is reportedly facing a potential January exit, with the club's perilous Premier League position increasing the likelihood of a sale.

French Interest and a Deteriorating Situation at Molineux

According to a report from French publication L'Equipe, Marshall Munetsi 'could' leave Wolves when the transfer window reopens next month. The story suggests unnamed French clubs are expected to show interest in the player.

The report directly links the possibility of a transfer to the 'deteriorating situation' at Molineux. Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just two points and are yet to win a game this season, leaving them staring at the prospect of relegation alongside Burnley and West Ham.

Munetsi's Wolves Career and Contract Status

The 29-year-old Zimbabwe international joined Wolves just over a year ago from French side Stade de Reims for a fee in the region of £17 million. He was signed to bolster the squad under former manager Vitor Pereira.

Since his move, Munetsi has made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals. His contract with Wolves is not due to expire until June 2028, meaning the club holds significant control over any potential deal.

Prior to his move to England, Munetsi built a strong reputation in Ligue 1 with Reims, where he played 159 matches and scored 21 goals after joining from Orlando Pirates in 2019.

A Pragmatic Decision for New Boss Rob Edwards?

The arrival of new manager Rob Edwards last month adds another layer to the decision. Edwards, who left his role as Middlesbrough head coach to take over at Molineux, will be keen to shape the squad to his liking as he fights to avoid the drop.

Selling Munetsi in January could provide Edwards with valuable transfer funds and squad space to bring in players who better fit his system. Furthermore, with the threat of Championship football next season looming large, there is a pragmatic argument that cashing in on an asset in January may be wiser than risking his departure for a reduced fee in the summer if relegation is confirmed.

When Munetsi signed, Chairman Jeff Shi highlighted the importance of the deal, stating staff had travelled to France to secure it on deadline day. Former sporting director Matt Hobbs praised the player's physical readiness for the Premier League.

Wolves' immediate focus returns to the pitch this weekend as they host Brentford at Molineux, seeking a crucial first league win of the campaign.
