Prime Appointments' sixth annual charity golf day raised more than £20,000 for the Alzheimer's Society, pushing the recruitment agency's lifetime fundraising for the charity past £305,000. The event took place at Colchester Golf Club, bringing together clients, friends, and local supporters for a day of friendly competition and fundraising.
Event Highlights
The day began with a hearty breakfast at the clubhouse before golfers tackled the challenging eighteen-hole course. Three nearest-the-pin challenges tested accuracy, while a Beat the Pro competition, hosted by golf professional Oliver Allison, added excitement. Players broke at the halfway house, decorated in Prime's signature oranges and pears alongside the Alzheimer's Society's forget-me-nots, for refreshments provided by Holts and Tiptree Patisseries.
Personal Motivation
Managing director Robyn Holmes explained the cause's personal significance: her co-founder and close friend, Margaret Locke, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at just 51. "It's perhaps the cruellest part of this disease," Holmes said. "Painless, maybe, for Margaret herself, but devastating for those who love her." Holmes noted that dementia and Alzheimer's are now the leading cause of death in the UK, yet fundraising for research receives only a fraction of support given to other major health charities.
Community Support
The event's success reflected the generosity of clients, sponsors, and the wider community. Prime Appointments extended particular thanks to Pickering Group for a raffle prize donation and significant financial contribution. Guy Longhurst, managing partner of Ellisons Solicitors, praised the team: "The hard part of fundraising isn't turning up and bidding in a raffle - it's doing what Robyn, Peter and the whole Prime team do. Organising, planning, and showing up every year, and making it look easy."
Lifetime Impact
Since Prime Appointments began supporting the Alzheimer's Society, the company and its community have raised over £305,000, funding vital research, family support services, and awareness. "We'll continue doing everything we can to support the Alzheimer's Society," said Holmes, "and keep believing that one day a cure can be found."
Sponsors and prize donors included Millom's Restaurants and Hotels, Strident Technology, Royal Cromer Golf Club, Hayley and Mark Joel, Pickering Group, Will Tew, Thurlow Nunn, Sharon Manby, Wendy Smith, Stephen Cook, Howard Blackwell, Blackwells Farm Shop, Sheringham Golf Club, Stourgarden, Majestic Wines, and Higham Vineyard.
