A binman has cleared up a pressing question relating to birthday cards and revealed he 'absolutely hates them' in the process. The self-styled 'binfluencer', known as @No1.Binman on TikTok, regularly highlights common mistakes people make when disposing of their waste.
One follower was confused about which bin birthday cards should go in, and while answering them, he descended into a mini rant. However, his dislike of cards had nothing to do with regularly finding them in the wrong bin; he just thinks they are 'a waste of money'.
Recycling Advice for Birthday Cards
In his latest video, he said: 'I absolutely hate birthday cards. What is the point of them in the first place? It's a waste of money. But if you are getting given birthday cards, if they're just normal cards, they can go in your paper recycling bin. Not a problem.'
He added: 'If it starts to have glitter, or if someone has drawn you a picture, or painted a picture for you, then it cannot go in your paper recycling bin; it has to go in your general waste bin. Once it's got glitter or paint on it, it cannot be recycled.'
The TikTok star reiterated his hatred of cards and said: 'Just send someone a message, don't get a card. If you're gonna get a card, get them a scratch card, at least you can win something with it. Otherwise, it's a pointless bits of paper being wasted.'
He was not alone in his opinion. Kyle left a comment on the video calling it a 'valid take'.
Official Recycling Guidelines
According to City of Wolverhampton Council's website, greetings cards without glitter are a welcome addition to recycling bins. However, those with an added sparkle should not be included, the same goes for wrapping paper, laminated paper, shiny metallic paper, or ribbon and bow decorations.
