Overnight M5 Closure After Caravan Fire Causes Traffic Halt
Overnight M5 Closure After Caravan Fire Halts Traffic

A caravan fire on the M5 motorway in Birmingham caused an overnight closure, shutting lanes and bringing traffic to a standstill. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 4A, near the M42 interchange, late on Tuesday evening.

Emergency Response

West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Police were called to the scene at around 10:30 PM. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the caravan was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported. The motorway was closed for several hours to allow for clearance and investigation.

Traffic Disruption

The closure led to long delays and tailbacks, with traffic diverted via local roads. National Highways advised motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. The carriageway reopened by 6:00 AM on Wednesday.
