Birmingham rail passengers are facing significant disruption this weekend due to engineering works on a major route. Services to and from Birmingham New Street station will be affected, with cancellations, diversions, and rail replacement buses in place.
Engineering Works Near Coventry
Essential engineering works are scheduled between Rugby and Birmingham International stations in the Coventry area on Sunday, June 14. These works will impact services operated by four rail companies: Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway, and West Midlands Railway.
West Midlands Railway confirmed: “Essential engineering works are taking place in the Coventry area this Sunday 14 June. No services will operate between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton, and between Birmingham International and Rugby. Road transport will be in operation.”
Affected Services
Avanti West Coast: Trains between London Euston and Birmingham New Street or Wolverhampton will not run. Instead, services between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street or Manchester Piccadilly will serve Watford Junction and Rugby. Trains from London Euston to Crewe, Preston, or Scotland via Birmingham New Street will start and terminate at Birmingham International. Rail replacement buses will operate between Rugby and Birmingham International, calling at Coventry.
CrossCountry: Trains between Bournemouth, Reading, and Manchester Piccadilly will be diverted and will not call at Coventry or Birmingham International. Replacement buses will run between Leamington Spa and Birmingham International via Coventry.
London Northwestern Railway: Services between London Euston or Northampton and Birmingham New Street will run only between London Euston or Northampton and Rugby, and between Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street. Trains between Coventry and Birmingham New Street will run only between Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street. Rail replacement buses will operate between Rugby or Coventry and Birmingham International.
West Midlands Railway: There will be no services between Leamington Spa and Nuneaton; rail replacement buses will be provided instead.
Passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling and allow extra time for their trips.
