A man has been arrested after a lorry collided with a railway bridge in Warwickshire, causing severe disruption to rail services across the Midlands.
The incident occurred on Marston Lane in Bedworth at approximately 3.30pm on Thursday, June 11. The driver of the lorry fled the scene following the collision, according to police.
Arrest Made
A 64-year-old man from Coventry was later arrested on suspicion of endangering a railway passenger and failing to stop after a collision. The arrest took place at 5.10pm on the same day.
Warwickshire Police responded to reports of a railway bridge collapse on Marston Lane. A spokesperson confirmed that train routes over the bridge were halted by National Rail while the incident was managed.
Emergency Response
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene, with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service sending four fire appliances, including a road traffic collision unit, from Nuneaton, Bedworth, and Coleshill. Crews remained on site for approximately one hour before handing the incident over to Network Rail.
Rail Disruption
All services between Nuneaton and Rugby were cancelled as a result of the crash. The route reopened on Friday, June 12, but commuters were advised to expect slower journeys than usual.
