Motorists across the West Midlands are being warned of major closures on the M42 and M6 motorways this summer as HS2 construction continues. The works will see key junctions closed overnight and at weekends, causing significant disruption.
Key closures and dates
National Highways has confirmed that the M42 will be closed between junctions 9 and 10 for several weekends. The M6 will also see closures around junction 4a for the installation of new bridge structures. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for journeys or seek alternative routes.
Diversion routes
Official diversion routes will be signposted, but congestion on local roads is expected. The works are part of the HS2 project to build a new high-speed rail line linking London to the North.
Residents have expressed frustration over the timing, as summer holidays approach. However, HS2 Ltd says the closures are necessary to minimise long-term disruption. More details can be found on the National Highways website.
