M54 Closures Planned for Resurfacing in Telford

National Highways has announced that sections of the M54 in Telford will be closed overnight for resurfacing work. The closures are scheduled to take place over several nights in March, affecting junctions 4 to 6.

The work is part of a £1.5 million project to improve the road surface and safety on a key route in the West Midlands. According to National Highways, the resurfacing will involve removing the old surface and laying new asphalt, which requires the road to be closed to traffic.

Closure Dates and Diversions

The M54 will be closed westbound between junction 4 and junction 6 from 8pm to 6am on the following nights: March 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22. Eastbound closures will take place on March 27, 28, and 29, during the same hours.

During the closures, traffic will be diverted via the A442 and A5223. National Highways advises drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and to follow the signed diversion route.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "We understand that roadworks can be disruptive, but this resurfacing work is essential to maintain a safe and smooth road surface for the thousands of drivers who use the M54 every day."

Impact on Local Traffic

The closures are expected to cause some delays, particularly for commuters and freight traffic that rely on the M54 as a key link between the West Midlands and Wales. However, by carrying out the work overnight, National Highways aims to minimize disruption.

Local businesses in Telford have been informed of the closures, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Drivers are encouraged to check for updates before traveling.
