A major Birmingham route was partially closed for two hours after a car facing the wrong way became wedged between a bus and a roadside curb. The incident occurred on the A34 Birchfield Road slip road in Perry Barr at around 3pm on May 30.
Incident Details
Footage shared on TikTok by user @brumbabey showed the car mounted on the curb, trapped alongside a bus. The user expressed confusion, asking: "Can someone explain to me, how has that car got like that? How is that even possible, going the wrong way?"
West Midlands Roads confirmed the southbound entry slip road from Wellington Road to Aston Lane was closed. In a post on X at 3.07pm, the traffic authority stated: "A34 Birchfield Road southbound entry slip road, from Wellington Road to Aston Lane in Perry Barr. Slip Road is closed. Traffic Incident."
Traffic Disruption
The road reopened just over two hours later, with the scene declared clear. However, the closure caused significant disruption to bus services, including routes 33, 51, 907, and 998, which were diverted away from the area.
A National Express spokesperson said: "Due to an emergency incident, all services to the city will be using the underpass."
Police were pictured at the scene, and BirminghamLive has contacted West Midlands Police for comment. The incident left many motorists and passengers questioning how such a situation could occur on a busy route.
